DECLARE THE OUTCOME OF CEASED ROSEWOOD - Hon. Dr Clement Apaak
The Hon.member of parliament for Builsa South,Dr.Clement Apaak,have asked the minister for Lands and Natural Resources,the quantity of rosewood impounded since the ministry announced the ban on harvesting and exportation of rosewood and how the impounded rosewood is disposed of.

Dr.Apaak asked this question on the floor of parliament last Tuesday 19th December 2017,where the deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources,Benito Owusu-Bio was made to appear before the house and give answers to questions asked by the law maker,Dr.Apaak.
With response to the questions raised by Hon.Dr.Apaak,the deputy minister,Benito said,the total volume of rosewood impounded since February,2017 to date is estimated at Four thousand Nine hundred and Eighty Six(4,986) metrics cubes and that is made up of Two hundred and Seventy Seven (277) containers.
The material was disposed of through public auction and the total amount realised was Two hundred and Ninety Five thousand,Four hundred and Fifty Seven Ghana Cedis (GHC295,457)
Dr.Apaak,further asked the deputy minister,
in addition to impounded the illegally obtained and harvested rosewood,what additional action has been taken against those who were found to have been engaged in this illegality.
"Have they been arrested or Prosecuted,and what happened to the containers and the vehicles that were used in perpetrating of this crime against the Savannah woodland forest",Dr.Apaak.
The vehicles were also impounded and owners were made to pay a penalty of Five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc5,000) before they were released to owners,after one month ceasure,Hon.Benito responded to the former presidential staffer,Dr.Clement Apaak.
The law maker kept asking the minister for Lands and Natural Resources,if the ministry or any of it's agencies granted approval or permit to companies to salvage rosewood in any part of Ghana and also asked the minister,if government has plans to weigh the same vigor of war against those who are destroy the woodland Savannah forest as it is doing against those who are destroying our forest and water bodies within the contest of illegal small scale mining.
Hon.Benito Owusu-Bio,responded that,Government and the ministry is ready collaborate with Hon.Dr.Apaak and all members of parliament from the Northern Region who are facing these challenges, and fight the illegal operators of rosewood to make sure the right thing is done,with regards to challenges on rosewood.
