ON THE VERGE OF DEATH "MY UNTOLD STORY ON UMUORJI,EKE-NKOR AS NIGERIAN ARMY MASSACRE" AN EYE WITNESS JOURNALIST
By Comr.Chukwu Ogbu
It all begun on 29th may 2016, my wife who is a hardcore christain and lovers of Biafra had awoken me at the dead of the night to warn me about an impending doom set to occur. "honey i saw you swimming in a river which suddenely metamorphose into bloods, she cried." i curdle her into my arms having seen how terrify she was, i whispered gently to her ears " queency, its just a nightmare occassioned by your feverish health.
That day,my dearest wife staged a dry fasting "6-6" to intercede on my behalf.
On 30th may around 6:30am i had arranged my gadgets including video cameras & other journalistic electronics from the hotel were i loged to nkpor where Biafrans was expected to gather in honor of her slain heros.
By 7.am,i was at Nkpor junction to conduct an investigation prior to rumours that army was harrasing IPOB members. At exactly 7:40am, i saw Army hilux from artilary brigade onitsha carrying 3 dead bodies & two others critically shot and bleeding profusely.
I was not detered by the those horrofic sights, infact i became more gigantic to execute my job. the word on the marble of Nnamdi Kanu's Biafra Or Death kept resounding in my heart, i was motivated and highly spirited.
The sporadic shooting and the use of live bullets by the Nigerian army suddenely disperse the already gathered IPOB rallies.
At 9:15 am, i saw over 300 Biafra Defence Squad emerged from nowhere, all wearing red t-shirts. They looked fearless and one may mistaken them to be the popular "bakassi boys". By then, i was with my colleague Prince Gilbert Okeke of family writers press. Gilbert is among those i respected for his zealous towards the struggle.
Immediately i sighted the "big boys" (biafra defence unit) i excused Gilbert and other journalist from Biafra writers whom was with us in a Prado Jeep.
By 9:35am, the Biafra defence unit who was only Armed with placards with the inscriptions "free Biafra And Free Nnamdi Kanu" , " Obiano Stop Killing Us", Unity By Force Is A Modern Slavery", et al. over 4000 people had rallied, jubilating and following the biafra defence units.
As Biafra defence unit approaches afor nkpor, i saw Nkpor vigilante services opening fire on the armless Biafran defence unit but mysterious, the bullets fail to penetrate the big boys.
The biafra defence unit matched and followed a track road leading to Eke Nkpor, I followed them from behind trying to make a video coverage as a seasoned journalist.
They Marched singing " Obiano How Many Biafrans Wey You Go Kill, How Many Biafrans Wey You Go kill, Oh! You Go Kill Us Tire O!, Oh!! You Go Kill Us Tire O!!, Oh!!! Oh!!!! Oh!!!!!, You Go Kill Us Tire O!!!, How Many Biafrans Wey You Go Kill??
The song been sung by Biafra Defence Unit truely sees Nnamdi Kanu as been wrong for once when he declared that Obiano was innocent of the allegations of killing our people. may be he was wrongly adviced because he was in absentia during the incident. If Army receives order from Nigerian seat of power to kill Biafrans, what of the local vigilante who are surbordinate and been the responsibility of the state government, who ordered them to kill biafrans at nkpor to disrupt the events?
By 10:05 am, Biafrans had approached Eke-NKPOR through track roads from Nkpor Junction, the sight of heavy armed armored tank and hiluxs from Army, JTF, Airforce, Navy and Civil Defence did not definitly augur well but spelt doom on Ipobians. It was then all the security agents probably 1/3rd of all the forces in Anambra began the deadliest repression of Biafrans, bullets was flying all over the air, soon men began to fall at their prime, sons who happily left home may not be coming again to meet their parents and wives who kissed their husband at the foreheads may soon become a widow. The thought of my wife's dream on 29th began to manifest.
Beside me was a young man of between 20-26yrs that was shot directly from the left eyes, blood was gushing out, i tored my singlet to pressurize the blood, i was soaked in bloods, the young man whom i did not get his name bleeds to death before my own eyes. Suddenely i throw off my cameras and became a medic as forced by situation.
That very day, i saw love and tribal war. Amidst flying bullets, i saw people who took the injured to nearby hospital, that confirmed biafrans love one another even in the most difficult situations. From the situation room of FWP, Emeka Gift who cared much asked me to go for safety, i declined.
All journalist on field work that very day including the gurus, Amarachi Ibe Gift may felt like to use pen and write down this British-zoo Creation nicknamed Nigeria which do not have any iota of respect for human right laws.
Offcourse, later that very day Nigerian Army embark on Operation kill the wounded as they ransack hospitals at nkpor in search of those with gun injury probably to kill them.
