TALKING WITH CHILDREN ABOUT SEX WITH REFERENCE TO- Ejisuman Senior High

Am amazed at the level of hypocrisy we show most times when issues curb up in our society , if we can remember not quite long set of young naive student were seen on video talking about sex and the next thing that they have been sent out the boarding house for talking about sex, what is wrong when people talk about sex?

Sex education for a secondary school child mostly occurs in the way we talk about body parts and body functions, how we teach children to care for, respect and protect their bodies, and when we prepare our children for puberty. Choosing the right age to answer questions such as ‘Where do I come from?’ and ‘What is sex?’ is more about how comfortable your family feels talking about such topics, rather than there being a perfect time.

Many children will have asked the question by the time they reach school. By senior high  , they will have a keen interest and will have formulated some kind of theory. Many children will also have made the link between reproduction and sexual pleasure, and will be entering into schoolyard speculation and curiosity.

Talking about these issues shows children that they can talk with trusted adults. Families lay the groundwork for children to feel okay about their bodies and body functions, and to feel confident to ask questions and seek help.

School programs are vital to support this process. Developing good sexuality education programs shows that the community takes responsibility for this aspect of children’s growth and development. If families and schools won’t take the subject on, children will turn to other sources of information that may not be reliable, such as friends, the Internet or the media with respect to the viral video of senior  high school been sent home from boarding house.

Ejisuman Senior High have failed in their responsibility and should not take it on the student moreover what have they student said that is unheard of morally or are we as a people trying to prove to be upright when we failed inwards? The Ghana Education should a a matter of urgency see to it that they student returned to their respective schools and given proper psychological counsel.

Parents need to recognize that children have a right to sex education and, if not properly educated at home, will receive misleading information from the mass media. Sex education should help young people to develop the ability to handle their sexual feelings, establish personal guidelines and standards for responsible sexual behavior, and form healthy interpersonal relationships.

Educational content should be geared to the child's age. For example, very young children should be taught the correct words for the sexual and excretory organs.

Although small children should not be overwhelmed with factual information, the provision of fanciful stories will lead to eventual mistrust in parents' honesty. Preadolescents need to be informed about changes that will occur in their bodies and reassured these changes are normal.

In general, the manner in which the information is presented (e.g., body language, tone) is more important than what is actually said.
